MOTUS (@motus_gallery) is an exhibition space on a bicycle.
MOTUS ran an exhibition program based on the IFA art collection in 2022 and from 2023 will run an independent program of local pop-up exhibition in and around Berlin.
MOTUS has been developed as a reflection on the traveling nature of IFA’s touring exhibitions. As a local and carbon contained project, MOTUS operates solely in public space.. The radius of MOTUS is only the one one persons pedaling capacity. It is the smallest and only mobile art space in Berlin.
The base for MOTUS is a 1991 Kuwahara frame, a Japanese mountain bike (refering 1984’s Spielberg E.T, in which kids' BMXs were all Kuwaharas). A prominent cargo rack is being welded to the new fork, thus giving MOTUS a display capacity to show some art on the go. Another element can be plugged on MOTUS: a telescopic « ladder » that elevates over eye level to mount/display a 2 dimensional work.
MOTUS was commissioned to Adrien Missika by IFA (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) in the frame of the Spheres of Interest* exhibition featuring the IFA art collection at IFA galerie Berlin (23.6 – 17.9 2022) and curated by Susanne Weiß and Inka Gressel.
